The Nine-Domed Mosque

Share post

The Nine-Domed Mosque is located in Bagherhat, south of Jinda Peer Mosque, and west of Thakur Dighi. The Nine-Domed Mosque was built in the 15th century. It is situated to the west of a pond known as Thakur Dighi. Near this mosque lies the mausoleum of Khan Jahan Ali. Architecturally, the western wall of this mosque faces Mecca and within this wall is placed the Mihrab. On the western wall around the Mihrab, there are terracotta designs of flowers. At each corner of the mosque, there are minarets or tall, rounded towers. The entire mosque is adorned with terracotta work. The walls of the mosque bear a large central dome surrounded by eight relatively smaller domes. Inside the mosque, it is divided into nine compartments by stone pillars. Each compartment has nine smaller domes constructed on the roof. The domes are arranged in a way that from whichever direction one looks, the distance between each dome seems equal. On the western wall, there are three consecutive Mihrabs totaling nine on the upper floor. There are a total of three doors on the front side of the mosque. The Jinda Peer Mosque and Mausoleum are located near this mosque.
